About this deal

The subsequent occurrence of having Solvent Contaminated Motor Oil and also within the Old Oil Filter should be changed out for an Inexpensive Organic 5W-30 Motor Oil-Oil Filter Combo for a brief follow on 'clean-out' period and then finally exchanged for Mobil1 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil and either a Mobil1 or a K&N Oil Filter. You will notice in the pictures above that the intake valves look relatively clean. That's because the injectors spray directly on them so there is no concern there.

I've seen multiple references to "Top End Soak" for these platforms. I believe these to refer to the practice of introducing a chemical to the top side of the combustion chamber with the intent of melting and breaking down the residual carbon in the chamber as well as having said chemical work its way down along the combustion chamber walls and free up the rings/oil rings. Start spraying the liquid into the MAF sensor (this is really important!) and boost the idle to around 1,500 RPM. Continue spraying until the engine stalls. Re-attach the MAF to the air filter box and let the engine sit for at least two hours.

Chevron recommends that you use 1oz of Techron Concentrate additive for every 1 gallon of gasoline. The Gerotor Oil Pump inside the front Timing Cover of the GM Atlas Vortec 4200 Motors is capable of pumping over 11 Gallons of Motor Oil Per Minute at nearly 65 PSI at Higher RPM Levels and perhaps as low as 12 PSI when Idling around 600 RPM. So just consider all of the "Extra Carbon Baggage" that gets mixed into the Motor Oil inside Carbon Laden Motors. We use a spray top engine cleaner, ACDelco branded, I'm not sure of the ACDelco part number off the top of my head. There is a bulletin out for this and they call out ACDelco part number X66P, a liquid. They also callout a kit to introduce this into the throttle body which we have but don't use for this purpose. I think you could get one of those compressed air powered aerosol cans, pour some of the X66P in that and put 15 or 20 pounds of air pressure behind it and spray it into the throttle body that way too. I know the spray we use and the X66P are to be left in the system for 2 to 3 hours but not more than 3 hours since the deposits can start to re-harden again. You should do it in a very well ventilated area as this stuff stinks real bad both when spraying initially and after starting the engine after the hot soak.

Important: When replacing injectors be sure to add dielectric grease to injector electrical connectors. The pressure drop is greater than or equal to 20 kPa. Injectors 1 and 3 appear to be lean when compared to injectors 2, 4, 5 and 6. Clean and re-test pressure drop. If cleaning does not restore flow on injectors 1 or 3, replace the detective injector or injectors as necessary. Charge time to labor operation J5650.I'd use spray and not the liquid, unless you can use an eye dropper to control the amount and location of where you are placing the fluid. When carbon gets bad enough to mess with the performance of your car, the best way to fix it is with a decarbonization procedure. There are many options available, some even from the auto manufacturers themselves. It can be difficult to choose which one to buy, which is why we came up with an easy guide of what are (in our experience) the best top end cleaner options to super clean your engine. Exhaust Valve Ports to Exhaust Manifold in the Passenger Side of the GM 4.2L LL8 Aluminum Engine Head:

If you pour a bottle into about a gallon of gasoline, you can use the stuff to clean fuel injectors. Run the engine until it's used up the gallon of gas. GM used to have a "special tool" pressurized container for the gasoline/Top Engine Cleaner mixture that would substitute for the fuel pump. No promises about this stuff being fuel pump safe. (Don't dump it in the gas tank of your vehicle.) Not much smoke at all. Drove her like I stole her, and almost all of the carbon was removed from the piston tops. What wasn't removed was taken care of that night when I repeated the procedure. If so, that is pretty proof positive of CLR's capabilities on stainless. If it flaked nitriding... but didn't hurt the ultrasonic itself, that would seem to demonstrate it's very excellent and safe on some things, but not others. Though it would seem an extreme case. I've used CLR to get carbon off nitrided bolt faces, but just a few swipes with a barely damp q-tip was all that was needed. No harm done.
