About this deal

If being able to speak lots of languages means you're multilingual, then this machine is multibeangual. Yup, totally made that word up, but hopefully, you get what I mean. The ability to switch between roasted cherries, pre-blitzed beans, or capsules is a game-changer and means that you can chop and change your coffee whenever you want. So much choice! Hear me out, coffee is the difference between a good and bad day in my house. Now, that sounds a li'l extreme because caffeine is technically a drug, but if I can't have access to coffee, that means, I can't start the day right with my husband, nor can I invite guests over. Because not everyone likes tea, and offering up water is... just a no. Enter the Breville / Mr. Coffee One-Touch CoffeeHouse II.

These days, most small espresso machines are either automatic capsule (insert capsule, press button) or semi-automatic for manual brewing with a portafilter (the spoon-like device with the handle that holds coffee grounds). Nearly all have an internal pump to generate pressure and force steam through coffee for extraction, along with a water reservoir, which is usually removable. Many include milk frothers to make foam for a latte or cappuccino and are typically manual for compact machines, though some models include milk temperature and foam texture settings. It's very rare for small espresso machines to have a built-in grinder.

Best espresso machine under $1,000: Solis Barista Perfetta Plus

COMPLIMENTARY GIFT: Includes a complimentary starter set of Nespresso capsules (capsule assortment may vary from picture) One of the best portable coffee makers, AeroPress uses manual pressure to infuse the coffee flavor into the water. It’s easy to use, doesn’t take up any countertop space, and people rave about the coffee that it produces. So much so, that our editor-in-chief named it one of the most useful kitchen gadgets she owns. Whether you’re planning a coffee-tasting trip to Colombia or heading on the express train to work, you can experience coffee wherever you are.

Single-serve coffee makers, generally speaking, give you the option to use pods or ground coffee. The settings on these are calibrated to offer a suitable-brewed individual cup, making espresso and Americano drinks (depending on how much water is dispensed, and how sophisticated the settings are). Premium coffee machines may come with a built-in milk frother, though these will typically be at the higher end of your budget. Need to add the boiling water! Minipresso GR is your best choice to enjoy up to 50 ml of authentic espresso at home, in the office and on the go. Drip or filter coffee makers are for coffee fans that generally have more time (and patience) on their hands to wait for their reward. A paper cone is filled with dry coffee grounds, and hot water is used to saturate the ground coffee, which slowly drips into a small carafe or vessel. Some say that this slower process produces better-tasting coffee, and many brands (like Moccamaster) pride themselves on making a machine that adheres to the "Golden Ratio" of coffee-to-water (1.9 oz/L ± 10%) and temperature (200°F ± 5°).

Our favorite prosumer espresso machine: Diletta Mio

EASY TO USE: The machine does most of the work for you. The Automatic Flow Stop feature dispenses just the right amount of espresso while maintaining the ideal brewing temperature.
